Improving Material Formability and Tribological Conditions through Dual-Pressure Tube Hydroforming

Dual-pressure tube hydroforming (THF) is a tube-forming process that involves applying fluid pressure to tube’s inner and outer surfaces achieve deformation. This study investigates the effect of dual-pressure loading paths on material formability tribological conditions. Specifically, pear-shaped triangular cross-sectional parts were formed using modes where inside tubular blank was alternated with outside surface blank, causing expand/stretch contract. During expansion, conformed die’s cavity, while during contraction, contact area between die workpiece reduced, leading decreased friction stress at tube–die interface. Additionally, reversal loadings caused buckle, altering state potentially increasing local shear stress, improving formability. THF has demonstrated chosen can substantially influence Comparing geometries by conventional shows significant increase in protrusion height both specimens THF.
